Fairlee Public Library – 8/14/26
Fairlee, Vermont
Fair weather and a freshly mowed leachfield made the Fairlee Library backyard the perfect setting for an afternoon of septic education, games, and hands-on learning.
Remote-control toilets raced across the lawn in pursuit of opposing vertical septic systems, while under the tent participants explored septic failure prevention and the soil science behind successful systems. SEFE's eight soil jars provided a hands-on texturing activity, and the USDA joined us with a soil-sifting demonstration.
With 3D displays, games, and plenty of laughs, the afternoon sparked conversations across generations about how septic systems work—and how to keep them working for years to come.
Vermont State House Room 11 – 2/19/26
Montpelier, VT
Students from Ms. Heather Morley’s AP Science class at Lake Champlain Valley Union High School traveled to Montpelier to learn about soil science and septic failure prevention. Former NH State Soil Scientist Joe Homer delivered an engaging presentation connecting soil science to real-world septic performance. “It was a really cool presentation — I especially loved the flushing, driveable toilets,” one student shared.
Hartford High School – 11/14/25
Hartford, VT
SEFE went back to school with Mrs. Lemieux's beloved Wellness class.
After listening to our slide presentation, freshmen and seniors got hands-on by constructing faux vertical septic systems and then “destroying” each other's systems with foam septic destroyers. A good time was had by all!
"The activities reinforced the core message of septic awareness while keeping the students engaged… the message of septic care was understood." – Sarah Lemieux
Aldrich Library – 10/16/25
Barre, VT
On this marginally brisk October Friday, we set up our booths in the lobby of the Aldrich Library at the invitation of the adult reference librarian.
Interactions ranged from humorous to cerebral. Special thanks to library patron Margaret Ferguson for the gift:

🚽🌿 Septic Awareness Week 2025 Kickoff – 9/15/25 🌿🚽
The Vermont State Capitol lawn lit up with bright yellow to mark the start of Septic Awareness Week. Remote-control toilets zigzagged about the lawn, trivia rolled out over the mic, and curious visitors stopped by to learn. Read all about it in the Bridge Newspaper .
